Description

Natural sea sponges from the Mediterranean Sea harvested respectfully using the traditional diver method.

Reusable menstrual sponge is a reusable, practical, and 100% eco-friendly product.
Their natural absorption capacity and softness make them perfect for intimate feminine care, as they adapt to the shape of your vagina; in fact, the texture of the menstrual sponge is very similar to vaginal walls.
They have not been treated with chemicals or bleaches, so they retain their natural color.
And once their useful life is over, they are organic waste, not synthetic waste.
They are very resistant and safe.

Harvesting is regulated by local and international standards that protect the marine environment and ensure that sea sponges remain a sustainable option for personal care.

How to use the menstrual sponge

Insertion

  • Before use, the menstrual sponge must be moistened and then squeezed to remove excess water, so it becomes soft and pliable.
  • Press it with your fingers to compress the sponge and reduce its size, then insert it into the vagina.
  • You should not feel any discomfort. If it feels too big, you can trim it.

Removal

  • To remove the menstrual sponge, simply use your vaginal muscles to push, and when you feel it with your fingers, grasp it and gently pull it out.
  • Rinse it under clean running water, pressing and releasing to wash it thoroughly. Once the water is no longer stained with blood, you can squeeze it out and reinsert it.

How long can I wear the menstrual sponge

The estimated wear time before emptying the sponge depends on menstrual flow and each individual; every bleeding day is different. A general guideline is around 3–4 hours, but you must get used to it.

Keep in mind that the menstrual sponge has high absorption capacity, but when it is saturated and full, it will start to leak. You can wear a pantyliner during the first uses to avoid staining and learn how it behaves with your flow.

How to clean the natural sea menstrual sponge

During menstrual bleeding days, you only need to remove the sponge from the vagina and rinse it under clean running water before reinserting it.

When bleeding days are over, wash the sponge thoroughly but without soap, as it can leave a residue that disrupts the vagina’s natural pH.

You can disinfect the menstrual sponge with vinegar, baking soda, or hydrogen peroxide.

How long does the natural menstrual sponge last

Sea sponges can last between 10 months and up to 2 years, depending on pH, care, usage and menstrual flow. This can vary greatly depending on factors such as the pH of your vagina, days of use, amount of bleeding and how you care for the sponge.

It is very important to consider whether a sponge is good quality or not.
There are many sea sponges on the market that crumble and fall apart very easily, which may be because they are a more fragile species of sea sponge or because they have undergone chemical or bleaching processes that weaken and damage them.
Make sure it is a high-quality sponge. At nüshu, we strive to offer sustainable products of the highest quality.

Where to dispose of sea menstrual sponges

Once its useful life is over, it is organic waste, and should be placed in the brown (organic) bin.
You can also cut it into small pieces and bury it to enrich the soil.
